DON'T DRIVE DRUNK!

The Alabama Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of the plaintiff's in a DUI accident, in which they were struck by a drunk driver. The Supreme Court affirmed the Circuit Courts ruling that awarded plaintiffs $1.8 million in compensatory damages and another $2 million in punitive damages.


Punitive damages are awarded at the courts discretion in cases where a defendant's actions are considered especially harmful, such as driving drunk. They are intended to punish the defendant to prevent the same conduct in the future.
